Snead voiced his support for Raheem Morris during the end-of-season press conference, highlighting Morris’ contributions as the Rams’ defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. Morris, with previous head coaching experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and as the interim coach for the Atlanta Falcons, is currently in contention for various head coaching positions.
Raheem Morris has interviewed with or been requested for interviews by several NFL teams, including the Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers, and Atlanta Falcons. Additionally, he interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts for a head coaching position last offseason.
When interviewing Raheem Morris for the defensive coordinator position in 2021, Rams head coach Sean McVay tried to persuade Morris to choose the Rams job over coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“When you have an opportunity to work with him, you want to be able to seize that. It’s an exciting time. I know that everybody will be rooting for him, but hopefully, he doesn’t get any of these jobs and he stays with us for a little bit longer. We’ll be pulling for him, and it’ll be exciting to see where it goes,” McVay added.
The Rams defense showed significant improvement under Morris, ranking among the top defenses in the league during the regular season. Morris’ success with the Rams has garnered attention, and his interviews for head coaching positions reflect the league’s recognition of his coaching abilities.
If Morris is hired as a head coach by another team, the Rams would be entitled to receive a third-round compensatory pick for two consecutive years. This provision, known as the Rooney Rule, aims to incentivize teams to develop and promote minority coaching candidates to leadership positions within the league.
