As they approached their Divisional Round game on Sunday, the narrative for the Kansas City Chiefs centered on Patrick Mahomes experiencing his inaugural playoff road game. Despite the superstar quarterback’s remarkable accomplishments, there were lingering uncertainties about Mahomes’ ability to manage the pressures of the postseason in an away-game setting.

Once again, the two-time Most Valuable Player defied the skeptics. Mahomes and the Chiefs successfully eliminated the Buffalo Bills, setting the stage for a forthcoming clash with the Baltimore Ravens.

After the game, Mahomes was queried about his sentiments regarding discussions surrounding his performance in away games. The 28-year-old amusingly referenced the Chiefs’ 2021 Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Speaking with a smile, Mahomes stated, “We played the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay,” as reported by NFL on CBS. “We lost that one. I don’t like to bring that one up… we’ve essentially experienced road games before.”

The quarterback also emphasized that the team’s week-long preparation ultimately boiled down to their collective mindset. He stated, “We approach it with the same mindset—coming together, putting our best foot forward, and striving for the win.”

And secure the win they did. Mahomes delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 215 yards on 17-of-23 attempts and concluding the game with two touchdowns. Both of these touchdown passes were successfully converted by tight end Travis Kelce — one in the second quarter and the other in the third.

Trailing by four points as they entered the final period, Isiah Pacheco stepped up, scoring a touchdown with 14:20 remaining in the game. The Chiefs defense played a crucial role in sealing the victory by ensuring that the Bills would not score again.

With this triumph, Patrick Mahomes and the entire team find themselves just one win away from earning another Super Bowl appearance. However, as previously mentioned, they face a formidable opponent in the form of the Baltimore Ravens led by the league powerhouse, Lamar Jackson.
