The NHL’s all-time goal-scoring leaderboard has been prominently featured, particularly with the Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin in pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s top spot. While Ovechkin’s goal-scoring pace has slowed in the 2023-24 season, with just eight goals, bringing his career total to 830, he remains a contender to surpass Gretzky’s record of 894 goals in the coming seasons.

Another prominent player making strides on the all-time goals list is Penguins center Sidney Crosby, who has experienced a significant ascent this season. Crosby recently tied his former teammate and current assistant coach Mark Recchi for the 21st spot on the list by scoring his 27th goal of the season during a 5-2 loss to the Coyotes in Arizona on Monday.

Crosby and Recchi, who shared the ice during parts of seven seasons with the Penguins, have each accumulated 577 career goals.

During this season, Crosby has surpassed seven players on the all-time goal-scoring list: Johnny Bucyk (556), Guy Lafleur (560), Mike Modano (561), Mats Sundin (564), Joe Nieuwendyk (564), Patrick Marleau (566), and Mike Bossy (573). The next target on the list is Jari Kurri, who scored 601 goals from 1989-98.

Following Kurri, the players ahead on the list include Dino Ciccarelli (608), Bobby Hull (610), Joe Sakic (625), Jarome Iginla (625), and Dave Andreychuk (640), constituting the next milestones to reach and potentially crack the top 15 in all-time NHL goal-scoring.

On January 22, Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby achieved a milestone, moving into a tie for 21st place among the NHL’s all-time goal scorers with a goal against the Arizona Coyotes. Notably, Crosby stands as the sole active player, aside from Alex Ovechkin, to have made such significant progress. In the current season, Crosby has already surpassed seven players on the all-time goal-scoring list.

Sidney Crosby is currently riding a five-game scoring streak, during which he has netted five goals and provided two assists. Maintaining this pace, he is on track to achieve 50 goals for the season. Additionally, Crosby’s 21 assists contribute to a total of 48 points this season, further solidifying his impressive career statistics. With 1,550 career points, he currently occupies the 12th spot on the all-time list. However, he has a long way to go to catch up with Wayne Gretzky, who leads the group with an astounding 2,857 points.
