Auburn officially announced on Friday that Vontrell King-Williams has been promoted to the position of defensive tackles coach. This news confirms earlier reports from Rivals and 247Sports on Wednesday.
King-Williams worked under head coach Hugh Freeze at Liberty before joining Auburn’s team as an analyst in 2023.
King-Williams replaces Jeremy Garrett, who was rumored to have accepted a position with the Jacksonville Jaguars but hasn’t been made public yet.
Garrett was the defensive line’s leader. There have been significant changes among Auburn’s defensive staff following King-Williams’ announcement as the defensive tackles coach.
Josh Aldridge will now coach the edge rushers after coaching the linebackers in 2023. Inside linebackers will report to D.J. Durkin, the defensive coordinator. Charles Kelly, the co-defensive coordinator, will oversee the safeties, while Wesley McGriff will oversee the cornerbacks.
Before spring practices and the 2024 season begin, Auburn’s staff is once again fully staffed. Any future alterations would result from the departure of an existing employee. This is Auburn’s entire staff as of February 9th.
