There is talk regarding which team would be best for Kirk Cousins to join if quarterback decides to leave the Minnesota Vikings as he approaches free agency.

Cousins has ties to the Falcons in Atlanta. Some people think the 35-year-old quarterback might be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, he may re-sign with Minnesota, according to reports.

The four-time Pro Bowler may alter his legacy depending on what he decides to do next. Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, is a model that Cousins should follow.

Following 12 very unsuccessful seasons in Detroit, where he finished with a 74-90-1 regular-season record, Stafford was transferred to Los Angeles in 2021, where he won a Super Bowl in his first season as the team’s captain. The doubts regarding Stafford’s ability to succeed in the NFL were quickly dispelled.

Cousins switched teams early in his career, unlike Stafford. with 2017, he joined Minnesota as a free agent following six seasons with Washington. Nevertheless, Cousins has only had three winning seasons, two seasons with double ten victories, and one postseason victory since joining the Vikings.

If Minnesota is going to need a complete rebuild rather than contend, Cousins will likely need a new home if he is going to establish himself as Stafford did. It remains to be seen if Cousins can locate a club as motivated to succeed as the Rams, but if healthy and in the appropriate circumstances, there is reason to think he can succeed.

“I believe that God has richly benefited me beyond my greatest expectations. Therefore, at this point in my career, money really isn’t the main concern,” Cousins stated in January following the Vikings’ disappointing 7-10 campaign. This seems like the words of a guy who may choose the best overall scenario over money since he understands that his career as an athlete is about to end.

Cousins has passed for 39,471 yards and 270 touchdowns in 12 NFL seasons. Cousins threw for over 4,000 yards in each of his three seasons prior to his 2023 season, which ended after eight games due to an Achilles injury. In four of his six seasons in Minnesota, he has had a passer rating above 100.

The main criticism of Cousins is centered on his record, which is 76-67-2 as a starter in the regular season. Like Stafford, he would therefore benefit most from a change of location to alter the course of his career.

Kirk Cousins should hope to follow Matthew Stafford blueprint
