Finalizing the coaching staff for the Seattle Seahawks under Mike Macdonald is getting closer.
Justin Hinds, the assistant defensive line coach with the Chicago Bears, will take over as the Seahawks’ primary defensive line coach. The news was released by Aston Wilson, his agent.
If the headline has left you all perplexed, that makes perfect sense. How is Hinds a former assistant coach of the Seattle Seahawks yet he has never been a coach in Seattle?
Okay, so…
From 2012 to 2013, Justin Hinds was the Wagner Seahawks’ college football coach. At the small, private institution in Staten Island, New York, he oversaw the outside linebackers and defensive line while also obtaining his master’s degree.
That season, Wagner not only won an FCS playoff game but also the NEC Football Championship before falling to Eastern Washington.
Indeed, Hinds is one of the few people who has coached a college and professional version of the Seahawks. He also has experience coaching the team.
A common trend across a number of Mike Macdonald’s assistants is that he spent the most of his coaching career in college. Hinds held graduate assistant positions at Mississippi State, Florida, Valdosta State, Western Carolina, Central Michigan, and Lafayette College before to joining the Chicago Bears in 2022 as an assistant defensive line coach.
What Seattle does with Bobby Wagner in his free agency is currently up to us to see. Should he decide to rejoin the team.
Hinds might become the head coach of Wagner’s Seahawks instead of the Wagner Seahawks.
