Many people are still speculating about what the New York Yankees will do in the future.
After making numerous additions in the summer, New York is already among the best clubs in the American League. But in order to be a real contender for a World Series championship, the Yankees will probably need to add another starting pitcher.
Blake Snell, the winner of two Cy Young Awards, has been linked to the Yankees on several occasions, but no deal has been completed as of yet.
However, this does not preclude the club from signing him. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, New York and Snell’s representatives are still in negotiations, but a deal won’t be reached unless he reduces his demands.
“There’s a lot of internet buzz about the Yankees and Blake Snell, and though there’s no evidence there’s been significant movement in talks in weeks — and the sides are at least chatting — a slight softening on the Yankees’ part was recently detected,” Heyman stated. “Only this past week, a Yankees official who had been declaring for weeks that they are “done” pursuing Snell mentioned that Snell’s team would need to “move”—that is, reduce its demands—in order to make progress.
“The sides were considered to be at least $100 million apart based on the Yankees’ initial offer, which was originally revealed by The Post a few weeks ago (although the Yankees were thought to be willing to go to a sixth year at the time).
The Yankees may find it difficult to think long-term because a higher average annual value increases luxury tax revenue and they would still have to give up draft picks.”
It would be ideal for the Yankees to land Snell prior to the 2024 season commencing. I’m hoping they can pull off another unexpected move.
