Isaiah Oliver, a seasoned cornerback, was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Friday.
Oliver, 27, signed a two-year, $6.75 million contract last March, but was cut after just one season. With the transaction, the 49ers freed up $2.4 million in cap space, according to Spotrac.
San Francisco started the week about $4.625 million below the ceiling on salaries.
Oliver recorded 67 tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery in 17 regular-season games (six starts) for the 49ers. Throughout San Francisco’s three postseason games, he saw no defensive playing time; all 35 snaps were on special teams.
Oliver spent five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons after being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Before departing Atlanta as a free agency after the 2022 season, he started 38 of the 62 games he played with the team.
In 79 games (44 starts), Oliver has accumulated 270 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two sacks.
