The Red Sox are still interested in free agency starter Jordan Montgomery, but they’re waiting for his price to drop, according to Boston Red Sox Insider Rob Bradford of WEEI.

According to insiders, the Red Sox are waiting for the price to drop before adding Jordan Montgomery as a free agent pitcher above other possible options.
First of all, the Red Sox’s interest in and priority for Montgomery makes great sense. The team is in severe need of starting pitchers with effect. Boston has nothing but question marks in their rotation right now, having finished last in the American League East the last two seasons.
This summer, the team moved Chris Sale and added Lucas Giolito, a potential bounce-back player. In addition, 24-year-old Brayan Bello is uncertain about the kind of leap he will make, and Nick Pivetta has never consistently performed well. Lastly, there are also important queries for Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, and Garrett Whitlock.
Montgomery’s arrival would provide the squad with another reliable arm and someone to start at the top of the rotation. Right now, it’s basically just a game of chicken. Now that spring training has begun, how keen is Montgomery to sign and reduce his fee?
With a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts during the regular season, Montgomery was a key player in the Rangers’ historic World Series victory in 2023. At the trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals moved him to Texas.
He has pitched in the major leagues for the New York Yankees, Cardinals, and Rangers for a total of seven years. His career ERA is 3.68 and he is 38-34.
