MLB Insider Jon Heyman reports that the Reds are signing veteran Mike Ford to a minor league contract. If Ford is selected by a major league team, the deal will be worth $1.3 million.
Ford, who spent most of the previous season as the Mariners’ designated hitter, finished with 16 home runs and 34 RBI in 83 games. He provides the Reds with another experienced power hitter who will need to compete for a spot on the major league team.
Additionally, on Friday, Cincinnati signed veteran Tony Kemp to a minor league contract.
