Reporter Mike Chappell recently had a conversation with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. While much of the discussion focused on Irsay’s health journey, he did share some thoughts on the upcoming draft. Irsay humorously suggested that if General Manager Chris Ballard could find a way to bring Marvin Harrison Jr. to the team, they would be in good shape.

“Looking ahead to the upcoming season, having AR back and Taylor fully focused at training camp sets us up for success. Now, if Chris can just work his magic and bring Marvin Harrison Jr. on board, we’ll be in fantastic shape.” – Colts Owner Jim Irsay

Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is anticipated to be one of the highest-drafted non-quarterbacks in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. However, with the Indianapolis Colts holding the 15th overall pick in the first round, it’s unlikely they’ll have a shot at selecting him.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Colts are among the teams that could consider trading up for a wide receiver. However, to have a chance at acquiring Harrison Jr., they would likely need to move into the top five picks, which would entail giving up significant draft capital, possibly including a future first-round pick.

The fact that Harrison Jr. is the top prospect mentioned by Colts owner Jim Irsay isn’t entirely surprising, given his lineage as the son of Colts legend Marvin Harrison. Whether Irsay’s comment was made in jest or not remains open to interpretation.

Nevertheless, Irsay’s remark adds further intrigue to the Colts’ intentions in the draft. It aligns with the belief that the team is eyeing a top-tier pass catcher with their first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, a notion reinforced by observations from Chris Ballard’s recent media appearances during the Scouting Combine.
