The Denver Broncos are entering the new league year with the knowledge that the fully guaranteed parts of Courtland Sutton’s and Mike McGlinchey’s contracts are now in effect.

Reported by 9NEWS’ Mike Klis, Sutton’s $2 million injury guarantee on his $13.5 million salary for 2024 has been converted into a full guarantee. Sutton has about $28 million remaining on his contract for two years, with $14 million non-guaranteed for 2025.

Courtland Sutton’s strong performance as the Broncos’ top wide receiver makes the guarantee of his contract no surprise. In the 2023 season, Sutton showcased his skills as a premier red-zone threat, recording 59 receptions for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns, tying for the fourth-highest number of receiving touchdowns in the NFL.

Despite rumors suggesting Sutton as a potential trade candidate and hints of dissatisfaction on his social media regarding the team’s offseason moves, the guarantee of his contract signals stability. With Tim Patrick, his complementary receiver, also returning for the 2024 season, fans are eager to see if Sutton’s perspective changes as he receives guaranteed money.

Mike McGlinchey, now entering his second year with the Broncos, saw a contract guarantee activate on March 18. His $17.5 million salary for 2025 is now fully guaranteed.

Recently, the Broncos restructured McGlinchey’s contract, converting approximately $14 million of his $15 million salary into a signing bonus and adding a void year. This move created $11 million in salary-cap space for the 2024 season. While McGlinchey had some questionable moments last year, particularly in pass protection, his overall performance on the right side of the offensive line was solid.

The Broncos are adjusting to the post-Russell Wilson era, dealing with significant dead money from Wilson’s contract. Despite this challenge, the team is working to restructure contracts and acquire high-value players at reasonable costs. With a larger amount of dead cap this year and a substantial cap hit in 2025 due to Wilson’s contract, the Broncos aim to have more flexibility in the future to sign impactful players and construct a competitive roster.
