New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas, who made a strong impression during his rookie season, is generating excitement as he prepares for his second year in the NFL.

Interestingly, Douglas will be sporting a new jersey number this season. He revealed on Instagram that he is transitioning from No. 81 to No. 3. This number was previously worn by Mack Wilson, but the linebacker departed as a free agent this offseason, joining the Arizona Cardinals.

Mack Wilson gladly passed on his former jersey number to DeMario Douglas, who considers the switch to No. 3 significant as he wore it during his time at Liberty University. With Wilson’s departure, Douglas didn’t hesitate to claim the number for himself.

During his collegiate career at Liberty, Douglas showcased his skills, totaling 79 receptions for 933 receiving yards and six touchdowns in the 2022 season. Additionally, he contributed five carries for 105 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

The Patriots kept a close watch on Douglas and ultimately drafted him in the sixth round with the 210th overall pick last year. Douglas impressed during training camp, earning a spot on the 53-man roster. Despite encountering some challenges as a rookie, he showed promise and stood out during a challenging season for the team.

In his debut NFL season, Douglas recorded 49 receptions for 561 yards but did not score a touchdown. With his new jersey number, No. 3, Douglas aims to find his way into the end zone and make an even greater impact in the upcoming season.
