The New York Jets were anticipated to be among the top AFC teams in 2023, but Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1 dashed those hopes early in the season.
Now, with Rodgers back to full health and significant upgrades to the offensive line and wide receiver positions through free agency, the Jets are poised to fulfill the expectations set for them in 2023, albeit a year later.
During the Annual League Meeting, head coach Robert Saleh praised general manager Joe Douglas for adding key pieces to the team, creating a sense of optimism and a desire for a quieter, more focused season compared to the tumultuous events of the previous year.
The 2023 offseason was dominated by the New York Jets, especially with the arrival of Aaron Rodgers. While this offseason hasn’t seen the same level of splashy moves, general manager Joe Douglas’ roster additions are expected to have an immediate positive impact.
The Jets have brought in a new pair of offensive tackles, Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, along with wide receiver Mike Williams, who would be a WR1 for many teams. With Garrett Wilson already established as a go-to receiver for the Jets, Williams adds significant depth as an elite No. 2 option.
However, the success of the Jets in 2024 will once again hinge largely on Aaron Rodgers’ performance and health.
“Aaron is focused and determined,” stated Saleh. “He’s diligently rehabbing, currently in California. He’s taking the necessary time for himself, but he’s also eager to get back on the field. He was ready to play last year, so I know he’s preparing intensely for the upcoming season. We have regular communication with him, and I can confidently say that he’s excited about the challenges ahead.”
