While the Wests Tigers revel in their recent triumph over the Cronulla Sharks, the club faces the potential departure of another promising young talent. Following his brother Cooper Clarke’s departure to the Melbourne Storm last year, Zakauri Clarke could soon follow suit in leaving the club.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, The Daily Telegraph reports that several rival NRL clubs are actively pursuing Clarke and expressing interest in securing his services.
Clarke, who emerged as the top point-scorer for the Wests Tigers in the SG Ball Cup last season, is a versatile player who featured in the forwards last year, primarily as a lock, second-rower, or prop. However, this season, he has transitioned into the halves, representing the club’s Jersey Flegg Cup team.
Although he has predominantly played off the interchange bench this season, Clarke was promoted to the starting five-eighth position last week against the Cronulla Sharks, replacing Iverson Matai. In an impressive display during the match, he accumulated 14 points, including one try and five goals, contributing significantly to the Tigers’ 38-18 victory.
