Coaches expand on rising NFL Draft stock of J.J. McCarthy | Yardbarker

The Patriots face numerous roster needs, with the primary focus being on securing a franchise quarterback. Fortunately, they possess the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft. According to Albert Breer, they are actively engaging with the top quarterback prospects, including Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy, in hopes of solidifying their future at the quarterback position.

There is a prevailing sentiment that Jayden Daniels may be the second-best quarterback prospect in the draft, particularly due to his dual-threat capabilities. His impressive performance in the 2023 season at LSU, where he amassed 3,812 passing yards, 40 passing touchdowns, along with 1,134 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, solidifies his status as a top prospect.

Drake Maye, hailing from the University of North Carolina, also showcased his skills with 3,608 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, and nine rushing touchdowns during the previous season.

Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy is generating considerable interest as a prospect. His standout performance in leading the University of Michigan to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game victory over the University of Washington has bolstered his draft stock. McCarthy’s recent rise in prominence adds to the intrigue surrounding him as one of the most captivating players in this year’s draft class.

Nevertheless, there are critics who argue that McCarthy may be overrated, citing his relatively unremarkable statistics and the absence of standout qualities that set him apart from other prospects.

Ultimately, the choice the New England Patriots make with their No. 3 pick is bound to have a significant impact on the trajectory of their franchise for the foreseeable future, potentially shaping their fortunes for the next decade or more.
