The Seattle Seahawks have Geno Smith as their starting quarterback for the 2024 season, but there are concerns about his long-term future in that role.
In their efforts to evaluate potential successors, the Seahawks have reportedly hosted South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler for a top-30 visit, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Although not projected as a first-round pick, Rattler is considered one of the top quarterbacks available on day two of the draft after reviving his career with South Carolina following a transfer from Oklahoma.
During his final college season in 2023, Rattler achieved career-highs in passing yards (3,186) and yards per attempt (8.0).
Despite playing behind a subpar offensive line at South Carolina, Rattler has been praised for consistently making big plays, showcasing the physical attributes necessary to succeed as an NFL quarterback in today’s game.
With Smith approaching free agency at 35 years old in 2026, the Seahawks may view Rattler as a promising candidate to eventually take over the quarterback position.
Having already acquired Sam Howell from the Washington Commanders in a significant offseason move, the Seahawks’ interest in Rattler suggests they are continuing to bolster their quarterback depth chart behind Smith.
