A pair of Boston Red Sox players commenced their rehab assignments with Triple-A Worcester on Friday, showing signs of progress.

Rob Refsnyder, initially sidelined due to a fractured toe, kicked off his rehab stint on Wednesday.

He took up the right field position for the Worcester Red Sox in their game against the Syracuse Mets at NBT Bank Stadium. In his five innings of play, the 33-year-old outfielder managed to secure a 2-for-3 record, including a double and a run.

Meanwhile, Vaughn Grissom, acquired from the Braves in exchange for Chris Sale, started the season on the injured list due to a left hamstring strain. He assumed the designated hitter role for the WooSox and went 0-for-3 in five innings.

With regards to Grissom, who is 23 years old, the Red Sox organization emphasized patience, as they aim for his full recovery. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow informed reporters earlier in the week that the team intends to take a cautious approach during Grissom’s rehab assignment, which can last up to 20 days for position players.

Grissom’s comeback will be eagerly awaited, especially considering the challenges faced by the middle infield in the wake of Trevor Story’s shoulder injury, which required successful surgery on Friday.

As Grissom advances through his rehab assignment, Boston will press on, gearing up for their clash against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park on Saturday. The game is set to commence at 4:10 p.m. ET, with comprehensive coverage available on NESN, beginning with pregame analysis at 3 p.m.
