The University of Missouri men’s basketball team made its second acquisition of the spring transfer window by signing Tony Perkins on Monday.
Perkins, ranked as high as the No. 13 transfer nationally by CBS Sports and a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, contributed significantly to Iowa’s success during his four-year tenure.
He played a key role in Iowa’s 86 wins, 47 conference victories, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and the 2022 Big Ten Tournament title. Across his four years with the Hawkeyes, Perkins accumulated impressive stats, including 1,175 points, 398 rebounds, 321 assists, and 137 steals.
According to Whitten Family Men’s Basketball Head Coach Dennis Gates, Perkins is a well-rounded player who fills a crucial position for the team. Gates praised Perkins for his size, physicality, and experience in a power-conference program, highlighting his ability to score, distribute, and rebound, as well as his exceptional defense. Gates also emphasized Perkins’ toughness and unselfishness, which align with the team’s core values.
In the 2023-24 season, Perkins earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and ranked second on the Iowa team with an average of 14.0 points per game. He led the team in assists with 158 and steals with 54, while also contributing 4.4 rebounds per game. Perkins’ impressive play landed him 77th nationally in assists per game (4.6) and 65th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.39).
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Perkins is among a select group of Iowa players with 1,100 points, 375 rebounds, 300 assists, and 130 steals. He started the last 81 games for the Hawkeyes and received honorable mention to the All-Big Ten team in the 2022-23 season.
Perkins joins Jacob Crews, a top-20 3-point shooter nationally, as early signees for the Tigers in the spring transfer window. Together, they contribute to the No. 4 transfer class in the nation, complementing the No. 4 freshman class signed in November.
