Coach Dennis Gates’ Missouri Tigers men’s basketball squad has bolstered its roster with the addition of a seasoned scorer from the NCAA transfer portal.
On Wednesday, the Tigers unveiled the acquisition of Marques Warrick, a guard who heads into the 2024-25 season as the leading active scorer among all Division I players, tallying an impressive 2,246 career points.
Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, Warrick spent the past four seasons at Northern Kentucky University. He holds the distinction of being Northern Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer and was ranked as high as No. 20 (according to Rivals) among players in the transfer portal this offseason.
Gates expressed his enthusiasm for Warrick’s arrival in an MU news release, stating, “Marques is a dynamic combo guard known for his prolific scoring ability, which he has consistently demonstrated throughout his collegiate career.
We have firsthand experience of his talent from our encounters in the Horizon League and understand the challenges he poses to opposing teams.” In the 2023 season, Northern Kentucky achieved a record of 22-13 and secured an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament by winning the Horizon League Tournament.
Despite being seeded No. 16, the Norse put up a commendable performance against top-seeded Houston, trailing by just three points at halftime before ultimately succumbing to a 63-52 defeat in the Midwest Region.
