Duke basketball has shown interest in a recent addition to the transfer portal from an ACC institution.
While the transfer portal has facilitated movement within the ACC, with players transitioning between conference schools like NC State, Clemson, Syracuse, and Notre Dame, Duke has not previously acquired a transfer from a fellow conference member.
However, the Blue Devils have secured the commitment of Maliq Brown, a former forward from Syracuse, for the upcoming season.
On Thursday evening, 247Sports’ Dushawn London revealed that the coaching staff at Duke University has reached out to Wooga Poplar, a transfer guard from Miami who recently entered the transfer portal.
Poplar, who stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 197 pounds, has attracted interest from several other programs, including Arizona State, Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, St. John’s, and Villanova.
During his time at Miami, Poplar emerged as a key player, particularly in the last two seasons, where he secured a starting role. He notably contributed to Miami’s Final Four campaign in the 2022-23 season.
In his junior year, across 29 games, Poplar averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, demonstrating his prowess as a versatile perimeter player. Additionally, he achieved a career-best 3-point shooting percentage of 38.5%.
