Alabama’s strong showing in the 2024 NFL Draft continued as four more former Crimson Tide players were drafted by the end of Saturday, bringing their total to 10 for the year. Among those selected were offensive tackle JC Latham, edge rusher Dallas Turner, and cornerback Terrion Arnold, all of whom were picked in the first round. Additionally, cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, wide receiver Jermaine Burton, and edge rusher Chris Braswell were drafted on day two. As the draft entered its final day, several other Alabama players remained undrafted but hopeful.
Defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe wasted no time hearing his name called in the draft, being selected with the fifth pick in the fourth round (105th overall) by the Los Angeles Chargers.
The next Alabama player to be drafted didn’t come until the sixth round. Running back Jase McClellan was chosen 186th overall by the Atlanta Falcons. McClellan, known for his versatility, is poised to make an impact for the Falcons close to home.
Shortly after, kicker Will Reichard was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings with the 203rd overall selection. Reichard, recognized as one of college football’s top kickers, brings his exceptional talent and winning mindset to the NFC North.
After a brief pause, it seemed that the 2024 NFL Draft would conclude without any more selections from Alabama. However, safety Jaylen Key broke the silence when he was chosen by the New York Jets with the 257th and final pick of the draft. Key, who transferred from UAB to Alabama for one season, not only became this year’s Mr. Irrelevant but also marked the last draft pick of Coach Nick Saban’s illustrious career.
With these 2024 selections, Saban’s total number of draft picks from Alabama reached 133, marking his final class of future NFL professionals. Many members of this class are expected to continue Saban’s legacy with impactful careers in the NFL.
While the NFL Draft typically garners significant attention from Alabama Crimson Tide fans, this year’s focus has shifted partially to basketball, thanks to the resurgence of Alabama Basketball under Coach Nate Oats. Following the team’s run to its first Final Four, enthusiasm for Tide Hoops has reached levels not seen in nearly two decades.
Although the 2024-25 Alabama Crimson Tide basketball roster is still taking shape, fans are eagerly anticipating updates on potential recruits, even if it means diverting attention from the NFL Draft. Coach Oats has made notable progress in roster development, with expectations high for the return of key players like Grant Nelson and possibly Mark Sears. Additionally, increased funding through NIL deals is fueling optimism about the team’s prospects for the upcoming season.
While Alabama fans will still enjoy the excitement of the NFL Draft, many are also closely following the recruitment of Rutgers transfer Clifford Omoruyi, who is seen as a perfect fit for Oats’ system. Landing Omoruyi, along with potential returns by Nelson and Sears, and the addition of Labaron Philon from Kansas, would solidify Alabama’s basketball roster as one of the strongest in the nation.
Philon, a Mobile native, initially committed to Auburn before joining Kansas. However, he recently requested a release from his National Letter of Intent, sparking interest from several schools, including Alabama. Despite not being heavily pursued by Alabama before his senior year, Philon’s impressive performance at Link Academy has made him a sought-after prospect for the Crimson Tide.
