Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron, known for his physical style of play, found himself in hot water after a controversial incident in a recent game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Despite his imposing stature at 6-foot-6 and over 230 pounds, McCarron has amassed a lengthy career marked by regular-season games, goals, and penalty minutes. His propensity for fighting is well-documented, as evidenced by records on hockeyfights.com.
However, even with his reputation, McCarron’s actions crossed a line during Friday night’s game. In a move deemed unacceptable, he collided with Canucks goalie Casey DeSmith, who was positioned outside of the crease.
The collision resulted in a penalty for goalie interference, highlighting the importance of respecting boundaries even in the heat of competition.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety has taken action against Michael McCarron for his recent hit, imposing a $2,000 fine. This marks the second instance of supplemental discipline for McCarron in his career.
Previously, on April 11, 2021, McCarron was suspended for two games and fined $12,068 for a check to the head of Yanni Gourde, then playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Despite the disciplinary actions, McCarron, 29, has had a notable career, appearing in a career-high 70 games during the regular season. He recorded 12 goals, 10 assists, and 100 penalty minutes during this time.
Since being selected as the 25th overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Draft, McCarron has navigated between the NHL and the American Hockey League.
