Jermaine Burton’s NFL Draft experience with the Cincinnati Bengals had a unique twist compared to the other 256 picks. In the second and third rounds, former players took the stage to announce most selections. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who revealed Cincinnati’s third-round pick, shared his personal connection to Burton, stating, “This pick means something to me as I’ve been training this kid for a long time and now he’s going to be drafted by the Bengals.”

For Burton, the moment was surreal. “That’s honestly kind of crazy if you think about it like that,” he remarked, emphasizing the sense of gratitude he felt.

Houshmandzadeh, who played eight seasons as a wide receiver for the Bengals and led the NFL in receptions in 2007, has been instrumental in Burton’s development. Burton expressed admiration for Houshmandzadeh’s expertise and mentorship, highlighting their deepening relationship beyond football discussions.

Despite already boasting a formidable receiving duo in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals’ decision not to re-sign Tyler Boyd created an opportunity for Burton. Head coach Zac Taylor praised the team’s receiving corps as one of the deepest in the league, emphasizing their talent and character.

Chase and Higgins have established themselves as dynamic playmakers, accumulating impressive stats over the seasons. Burton believes their complementary skill sets can lead to significant success for the Bengals’ offense.

Reflecting on the Bengals’ 2023 season, which saw them finish with a 9-8 record after losing quarterback Joe Burrow to injury, Burton expressed eagerness to join forces with Burrow. Despite the setback, Burton feels honored to have the chance to play alongside Burrow, recognizing the quarterback’s talent and leadership.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher expressed confidence in Jermaine Burton’s ability to contribute to the team, particularly in the slot receiver role previously held by Tyler Boyd. Pitcher highlighted Burton’s explosiveness and versatility, noting his capacity to create mismatches for opposing defenses. He emphasized Burton’s skill in separating from defenders and making difficult catches, describing him as a multifaceted player capable of threatening defenses both deep and over the middle.

Burton’s collegiate journey began at Georgia before transferring to Alabama, where he made a significant impact over two seasons. With the Crimson Tide, Burton showcased his playmaking ability, amassing impressive stats including 79 receptions for 1,475 yards and 15 touchdowns.
