Recently, a seventh Seattle Mariners prospect has made it into Baseball America’s Top 100 list.
Pitcher Logan Evans is currently ranked No. 99, as revealed by his father, who shared the chart on social media.
Evans joins a group of notable Seattle Mariners prospects including Colt Emerson, Cole Young, Harry Ford, Laz Montes, Tyler Locklear, and Jonny Farmelo.
Evans is currently excelling at Double-A Arkansas with a 5-2 record and a 1.23 ERA over 10 starts. In 51.1 innings, he has struck out 47 batters and allowed only three home runs. A 12th-round pick from the University of Pittsburgh, Evans struggled in college but has found significant potential in the professional ranks.
According to his MLB.com prospect profile, Evans had unimpressive mainstream numbers in college, with a 5.88 ERA as a junior and a 7.43 ERA as a sophomore. However, the Mariners noticed his elite extension from his 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame. Evans mainly uses a two-seam fastball in the 93-94 mph range, paired with a slider effective against lefties and a cutter used against righties.
At 22, having started his college career at Penn State during the 2020 pandemic-shortened season before transferring to Pitt in 2022, Evans’ development has been rapid. The Mariners were confident enough to assign him to Single-A Modesto for their playoff run…
The Mariners, who focus on pitching at the major league level, have seen Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo graduate from multiple prospect lists in recent years. Evans’ emergence is a promising sign for the continuation of their pitching pipeline.
