The Philadelphia Eagles have faced some criticism in recent months for how the 2023 season ended, but one season does not define an era.

At least, that’s what NFL analyst Craig Carton seemed to express on Tuesday’s edition of “The Carton Show.” Carton gave Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman one of the highest praises an active GM could receive.

“The Philadelphia Eagles might have the best general manager in football,” Carton declared.

Of course, the keyword is “might.” It wasn’t a definitive statement by Carton, but even suggesting it is a significant compliment.

According to 97.5 The Fanatic, Roseman became the Eagles’ general manager in 2010. Since then, the team has reached two Super Bowls and made five playoff appearances.

However, it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Between 2010 and 2016, Roseman’s team only made the playoffs twice, losing in the Wild Card round both times.

Many agree the first half of his tenure was difficult for fans to watch. However, in the last half-decade, Roseman has accomplished some of the toughest feats imaginable for a team.

Since 2017, Roseman assembled a team that defeated Tom Brady in the Super Bowl with a backup quarterback. He then transitioned away from both the backup and the starter from that season and returned to the Super Bowl within the next five seasons.

Most franchises have never achieved such a feat. Those that have often took decades to do so.

While much of the spotlight has been on Roseman’s biggest rival, the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles’ general manager has been busy.

According to Spotrac, AJ Brown received an extension through the 2029 season, providing the team with a solid foundation. However, the Eagles’ offensive line took a hit.

Jason Kelce retired this offseason, raising questions about who will protect Jalen Hurts. ESPN suggests Cam Jurgens will step into the role, but the transition is new for both the quarterback and the line, making it uncertain how smoothly it will go.

At running back, the team handed the starting duties to Saquon Barkley, who previously played for their rival Giants. Some called it the steal of the offseason as they weakened the Giants and prevented Barkley from joining the rival Cowboys.

With the season still months away, the true impact of Howie Roseman’s 2024 offseason decisions remains unclear. However, he is well deserving of the recognition he’s receiving.
