Former Sydney Swans captain and 2012 Premiership player Josh Kennedy has taken on a new role as an ambassador for the Sydney Swans Foundation. In this capacity, Kennedy will contribute to fundraising efforts aimed at securing the future of the club.

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Kennedy emphasized the significance of giving back to the sport and the club that has been a significant part of his life. He highlighted the alignment of the Foundation’s work with his personal values, particularly in supporting the community through football and fostering connections between members and fans over the club’s long history.

As part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations, the Foundation is currently raising funds to complete a museum at Sydney Swans HQ. This museum will provide fans with an immersive experience of the club’s rich history, showcasing its people, memorable moments, and enduring connections.

Kennedy stressed the importance of understanding the club’s history and culture, noting that a museum would contribute significantly to both players’ and spectators’ appreciation of the club’s heritage.

Having joined the Swans in 2009 after starting his career at Hawthorn, Kennedy spent 13 seasons with the club, leaving an indelible mark on its history. In addition to the support from principal partner QBE, the Sydney Swans Foundation plays a crucial role in investing in the growth and development of initiatives such as the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and the AFLW squad, with donations and bequests playing a vital role in their success.

“These programs serve as a cornerstone for development, providing opportunities for children to participate, raise awareness, and receive top-notch coaching,” he emphasized.

The Sydney Swans Foundation remains committed to safeguarding the club’s future. With the generous support of donors, the Foundation can offer essential funding to the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. This initiative not only helps the club recruit top talent but also prepares individuals for success beyond the field.
