Former Collingwood player Shannon Cox has appeared in court following a crash in Western Australia that resulted in the deaths of two people.

Emergency services responded to the incident around 9am on Friday on the Brand Highway in Cooljarloo, approximately 170km north of Perth. The crash involved two cars and a road train towing two trailers.

WA Police allege that 38-year-old Cox was driving a Toyota Prado southbound when it collided with a northbound Suzuki Ignis hatchback. The road train, a white Volvo, was also traveling northbound near the intersection of Waddi Rd.

The hatchback’s 82-year-old driver and her 83-year-old passenger died at the scene. A 12-year-old girl sustained injuries in the crash.

Despite the deployment of five St John ambulances and two RAC Rescue helicopters, the helicopters were not required. Neither Cox nor the 31-year-old male driver of the Volvo truck was injured.
