The Boston Red Sox have reinstated designated hitter Masataka Yoshida from the 10-day injured list, while designating veteran first baseman Garrett Cooper for assignment.

Yoshida, 30, has been out since April 28 due to a left thumb strain. He returned to the lineup as the DH on Tuesday, batting fifth against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Before his injury, Yoshida was hitting .275 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 24 games. During his rehab stint at Triple-A Worcester, he went 1-for-7 with two runs scored in two games.

Yoshida made his MLB debut in 2023, posting a .289 average with 15 home runs and 72 RBIs in 140 games for the Red Sox.

Cooper, 33, has hit .171 with five RBIs in 24 games for Boston since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs on April 27.

In his career, Cooper has a .265 average with 57 home runs and 233 RBIs across 517 games with the New York Yankees (2017), Miami Marlins (2018-23), San Diego Padres (2023), Cubs (2024), and Red Sox. He was an All-Star in 2022.
