Carlton defender Alex Cincotta has extended his stay with the Blues for another year.

Cincotta joined IKON Park last year through the 2023 Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period to cover for Zac Williams, who was sidelined due to injury.

Having played 25 AFL games and scored six goals in his brief AFL career, the 27-year-old debuted in Round 6 last year and appeared in 19 games during his first season. This year, he started in the VFL and waited two months before breaking into the senior team, where he has played every game since Round 8.

Known for his selfless attitude, defensive skills, and speed, Cincotta also brings versatility, recently playing in various positions including midfield. His team-first mindset was evident over the weekend when he scored two goals in the final term to help the Blues secure a win over the Bombers.

Sweat and tears: The phone call that changed Carlton Blues Alex Cincotta

Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin praised Cincotta’s attitude, noting it as a key reason for his contract extension.

“The way in which Alex’s football journey has unfolded, he has developed a great ability to stay ready, for whenever an opportunity comes his way,” said Austin. “That mentality is a credit to him, and a key reason why he has earned his place in the side.”

Austin emphasized the team’s pride in fostering a selfless and committed playing group, highlighting Cincotta as a prime example.

Carlton will have their season bye this weekend and return in Round 15 against Geelong.
