The injury news has not been favorable for the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend. Just a day after losing starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the injured list, they faced another significant setback during their 3-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.
Superstar shortstop Mookie Betts suffered a fractured bone in his left wrist, according to manager Dave Roberts, and is expected to miss “some time” as a result.
The only silver lining is that Betts will not require surgery.
Betts was injured when he was struck on the left wrist by a 98 mph fastball in the bottom of the seventh inning, immediately dropping to the ground in pain.
Despite this, the Dodgers remain in a strong position in the standings. They lead the National League West and still have two other MVPs in their lineup, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, to help carry the offense.

As long as Betts returns healthy in time for the playoffs, the team should be fine. However, his absence is a significant short-term loss, and there is concern about how effective Betts will be upon his return. Hand and wrist injuries can be challenging to recover from quickly, posing a potential issue. For now, the Dodgers can only wait and see.
