According to Football Insider, Premier League clubs are closely monitoring the defender following his standout performances in the Championship.

The 22-year-old has garnered interest ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, potentially paving the way for a move to the top flight.

Sunderland acquired Hume in January 2022 from Northern Irish side Linfield for a reported fee of £150,000.

Reports suggest it could take an offer of up to £8 million to persuade Sunderland to part ways with the full-back this year. Hume played a pivotal role for Sunderland last season, appearing in all 46 league matches and starting in 45 of them (statistics from Fbref).

Sunderland faced challenges in the latter half of the season under managers Michael Beale and Mike Dodds.

The appointment of a new head coach could influence Hume’s future, as Sunderland is yet to name a permanent successor to Beale, who was dismissed in February.

Aston Villa and Bournemouth are reportedly considering moves for Hume amid this uncertainty.

Aston Villa, under Unai Emery, secured fourth place in the Premier League and Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.

However, Villa may need to sell players to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations before bringing in new signings.

Hume is under contract with Sunderland until summer 2027, and his next career move remains undecided.

Hume initially made three league appearances for Sunderland upon joining in the middle of the 2021/22 season, but his role grew significantly as the club earned promotion from League One in 2022.

He featured prominently in their first season back in the Championship under Tony Mowbray, making 28 appearances as they narrowly missed out on a second consecutive promotion.

In the 2023/24 season, Hume solidified his position as a key player, accumulating over 4,000 minutes in the league as Sunderland finished 16th.

Sunderland anticipates interest in several players this summer and faces the challenge of balancing potential profit against maintaining a strong squad nucleus.

Given the circumstances, the club may consider waiting another year to see if Hume’s value continues to rise with strong performances in the Championship.
