The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Boston Red Sox face some tough decisions. Currently, it seems more likely that the team will be buyers rather than sellers. Despite an up-and-down start to the season, if Boston continues its recent strong performance, it could be looking to add talent.
However, several Red Sox players have been mentioned as potential trade candidates if the team decides to sell. Surprisingly, outfielder Jarren Duran is among those mentioned, with The Athletic’s Jim Bowden loosely linking him to the San Francisco Giants.
Bowden commented, “Position targets: Shortstop (and) center fielder. CF: Luis Robert Jr., Jarren Duran, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Cedric Mullings, Harrison Bader, Leody Taveras, Jacob Young, (and) Jake Meyers. The Giants would like to find a full-time solution at shortstop and a stopgap for center field to replace the injured Jung Hoo Lee.”
Duran has been performing exceptionally well for the Red Sox this season, potentially earning his first All-Star selection. With free agency not until 2029, it would be surprising to see him traded unless a blockbuster offer comes through.
If the Red Sox continue their winning ways, they are likely to buy at the deadline. Even if they choose to sell, it would be unexpected to see Duran moved this summer.
