In the offseason, New York added two new wide receivers for Rodgers: Mike Williams, signed during NFL free agency, and Malachi Corley, selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Both players are expected to contribute to the offense this season. However, the Jets may still be interested in making another move to further strengthen the wide receiver room.
Reportedly, New York attempted a massive blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Vikings for superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson this offseason. This indicates their willingness to improve the roster if the right opportunity arises.
Given this context, could the Jets still be looking to acquire another wide receiver? If so, there may be some wideouts available on the trade market.
Here are two potential wide receiver trades that New York should consider pursuing:
Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks
Throughout the NFL offseason, Tyler Lockett has been rumored as a potential trade candidate. With two more years left on his contract and a potential out after this season, the Seahawks might be open to moving him.
Seattle’s roster includes DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, which could make Lockett expendable.
If Lockett is available, the Jets would be a sensible destination.
Last season, Lockett caught 79 passes for 894 yards and five touchdowns. He remains a legitimate playmaker and would be a valuable addition to New York’s offense.
While it’s not guaranteed that he’s available for trade, the Jets should explore the possibility.
Treylon Burks, Tennessee Titans
A more likely trade target could be Treylon Burks from the Titans.
Burks, the No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has not met expectations. In two seasons, he has played 22 games, catching 49 passes for 665 yards and one touchdown.
Despite his underwhelming performance, Burks still has the potential and talent that made him a first-round pick. A change of scenery might help him realize his potential.
Playing alongside a quarterback like Rodgers could be beneficial for Burks. He wouldn’t be costly to acquire and could be a low-risk, high-reward addition.
Though not yet a proven player, Burks could interest the Jets. If he reaches his full potential with the team, he could become a starting caliber receiver and a playmaker.
