Everton youth prospect Aaron Apia has signed a contract with Newcastle United after leaving Everton, as reported by The Secret Scout.

The reliable source announced via Twitter on Sunday (23 June) that the 16-year-old centre-back, who has played for the Poland national team, has joined the Magpies, contributing to the growth of their academy. According to Newcastle World, Apia recently trialed at St James’ Park and appeared as a substitute in Under-18 matches against Leeds United and Wolves.

Everton lose another youth prospect as Newcastle United sign Aaron Apia
Evertonians might be concerned about the quality of youth prospects leaving the club, with Apia being the latest departure. Over the past two seasons, few talents from Finch Farm have broken into Sean Dyche’s senior team, which may have influenced Apia’s decision to move to Newcastle.

Additionally, Everton seem to be losing Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa, which might be related to PSR purposes, though it’s still a loss of homegrown talent. Dobbin is set to join the Villans, while Tim Iroegbunam has already signed with Goodison Park. Given Jarrad Branthwaite’s rise at Goodison Park, Apia’s departure to Newcastle, particularly as a left-sided defender, might be regretted.

Young players are likely drawn to St James’ Park due to the club’s history, but Toffees fans will be disappointed. Apia, who can represent Poland, England, and Nigeria, will likely become more well-known in the future, though his international decision won’t be made anytime soon.
