Erik Kratz, a veteran of 11 MLB seasons and current co-host of “Foul Territory,” suggested that the Atlanta Braves should pursue Jack Flaherty in a trade to bolster their starting pitching. Despite the Braves’ strong pitching this season, Kratz believes Flaherty, currently with the Detroit Tigers, could be a valuable addition. He pointed out that Flaherty’s performance, highlighted by a 2.92 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 83.1 innings, makes him an attractive target as the trade deadline approaches.

Kratz’s comments, made on a recent episode of “Foul Territory” alongside Scott Braun and A.J. Pierzynski, referenced an article by Jim Bowden of The Athletic listing Flaherty among the top starting pitchers likely to be traded. With the Tigers struggling and Flaherty’s contract nearing expiration, Kratz emphasized the potential for the Braves to acquire young talent before Flaherty becomes a free agent.

While acknowledging that discussions between the Braves and Tigers may not have started, Kratz suggested that adding Flaherty would strengthen the Braves’ pitching depth, particularly as they compete with the top-ranked rotation of the Philadelphia Phillies. He emphasized the importance of securing a reliable fourth starter for postseason contention, an area where the Phillies currently hold an advantage with Cristopher Sánchez.

Given the competitive landscape and potential interest from other teams, Kratz concluded that now is the opportune time for the Braves to explore a trade for Flaherty, aiming to bolster their chances against formidable rivals like the Phillies in upcoming playoff scenarios.
