The New York Knicks have been active this offseason as the front office makes strategic moves to elevate the team. Consequently, the roster will undergo changes, and it appears a promising center won’t be part of the team next season.

This is the Precious Achiuwa the Raptors were hoping for: How Knicks trade unlocked forward's mesmerizing potential | Sporting News

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks have officially decided not to extend a $6.27 million qualifying offer to Precious Achiuwa, making him an unrestricted free agent. Achiuwa had a solid season with the Knicks, averaging 7.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 24.2 minutes per game, but the front office seems to be moving in a different direction.

The Knicks’ decision could pave the way for the potential return of Isaiah Hartenstein, although the exact plans remain unclear. This offseason is crucial for the Knicks as they aim to become title contenders, especially with Jalen Brunson leading the charge.

Achiuwa, meanwhile, is expected to attract significant interest as a free agent. With his potential and solid performance, he would be a valuable signing for many teams, possibly making further strides in his development as a consistent center next season.

The Knicks are looking to challenge the Boston Celtics, who are currently the team to beat in the Eastern Conference after winning the championship. With the recent acquisition of Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets, the Knicks now boast a strong lineup featuring Brunson, Bridges, and OG Anunoby. Additional firepower could arrive if trade rumors involving Mitchell Robinson materialize.

While it’s uncertain who the Knicks might target in further trades, the franchise might already feel confident with their roster after acquiring Bridges. Regardless, the Knicks are expected to be aggressive this offseason, aiming to build a powerhouse capable of competing with the Celtics.

If everything aligns, New York could make a deep playoff run next year.
