The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is just a few weeks away, and with its approach, speculation is set to intensify. There will be plenty of movement across baseball in the coming weeks, and the Atlanta Braves are expected to be heavily involved in the action.
Atlanta has a few clear needs due to high-impact injuries, and one player who could be a good fit is New York Mets star pitcher Luis Severino. The former New York Yankees star joined the Mets this past offseason and has returned to form.
Although the Mets have recently improved, Severino “could hit the market,” according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
“(The Mets) are a rare fortunate contender that won’t need rotation or positional aid,” Heyman said. “They, in fact, maybe the only contending team that may trade from their stash of starters while still staying in the race, as our Mike Puma reported. Jose Butto, Christian Scott, and (Tylor Megill) are extras now, meaning vets like Sean Manaea, Jose Quintana or even Luis Severino could hit the market.”
While a deal between division rivals may be challenging, it’s not impossible. If Atlanta can meet the Mets’ asking price, a deal could be beneficial. Severino has been fantastic this season and could immediately boost the Braves’ starting rotation. Braves fans should keep an eye on the Mets.
