The MLB All-Star Futures Game has become a key highlight of the mid-summer festivities, showcasing some of the game’s brightest young talents before they make it to the Majors. Celebrating its 25th annual showcase, this year the Milwaukee Brewers’ representative in Arlington, Texas, will be shortstop Cooper Pratt.
The seven-inning game will take place on July 13, with the Brewers’ 4th ranked prospect joining fellow National League prospects under the management of Hall of Famer Adrian Beltré. Pratt recently appeared in the MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospect list, ranked 96th, joining fellow Brewers’ prospects Jeferson Quero, Jacob Misiorowski, and Tyler Black.
**Cooper Pratt to Represent the Brewers in the All-Star Futures Game**
Drafted in the sixth round of last year’s Draft out of a Mississippi high school, Pratt has spent this season playing for the Low-A Carolina Mudcats. The 6-foot-4 righty has played in 59 games, recording two home runs, 31 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases with a slash line of .313/.411/.403 and an OPS of .814. He has reached base in 35 consecutive games and in 47 of his last 48 games, indicating his advanced hitting skills at just 19 years old.
Pratt’s batting has been impressive, but his arm strength at shortstop is also a significant asset. He has shown great instincts on the field, playing some games at second base and potentially serving as an option at third base if needed.
Heading into the 2023 Draft, Pratt was the 45th ranked player by MLB Pipeline and had earned the Mississippi Gatorade State Player of the Year award. He has continued to develop, winning the Brewers’ Minor League Player of the Month award in May and adding even more accolades.
As his power develops, Pratt is expected to increase his home run tally. With his height and bat speed, he has the potential to become a 20-home-run player in the Majors.
Last year, the Brewers had Jacob Misiorowski and Jackson Chourio represent them in the Futures Game. If Pratt can follow in Chourio’s footsteps, they could form a formidable offensive duo for Milwaukee in the future.
