Mike Norvell and Florida State Land 2026 Safety Tedarius Hughes
Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles have secured another verbal commitment, this time for #Tribe26. FSU is excited to welcome an under-the-radar South Florida safety prospect who has called FSU his “dream school.”
Tedarius Hughes, a 6’3″, 175-pound defensive back from South Dade in Homestead, Florida, is ranked as the 374th best player in the nation by the 247Sports Composite (32nd best safety, 64th best player in Florida). Those rankings are expected to rise over time.
Hughes chose the Seminoles over several offers from schools such as Charlotte, FAU, Louisville, Nebraska, Syracuse, UCF, UConn, and USF. The hometown Miami Hurricanes are also likely to offer soon.
Hughes received his Florida State offer in April and impressed at the June 9th FSU Elite Camp, showcasing his impressive length and quickness. He has the type of frame that coaches Pat Surtain and Adam Fuller favor.
In limited action last season, Hughes recorded four interceptions (one for a pick-six) and 15 tackles in six games. While he shows solid tackling technique, he needs to be more consistent in this area. However, he excels at reading the quarterback’s eyes and closing quickly on ball carriers. FSU seems to have recognized Hughes’ potential early, as he could become a standout with a strong camp performance and season ahead.
