One year after winning the World Series, the Texas Rangers might be prominent sellers at the trade deadline.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, rival executives believe the Rangers will make several top players available, including pitcher Max Scherzer and relievers David Robertson and Kirby Yates.

Rangers set to be sellers at trade deadline?

Scherzer’s situation is complicated by his full no-trade clause, but the Rangers appear open to moving him if he waives it. Scherzer, in the final year of his contract, facilitated a trade to the then-contending Rangers last year and has just returned from injury, which could impact his value.

Despite their October run last year, the Rangers have struggled in 2024, currently holding a 41-48 record. To avoid a sell-off at the end of July, they need to improve quickly. The team’s focus seems to be on trading players with short-term contracts, effectively punting on the rest of the 2024 season.
