Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced on Friday that the team has signed defensemen Michael Callahan and Alec Regula to one-year, two-way contracts, each with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
Michael Callahan, 24, played 70 games with the Providence Bruins in the AHL during the 2023-24 season, tallying four goals and 13 assists. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound defenseman has a total of six goals and 21 assists in 140 career AHL games, all with Providence. He played four seasons at Providence College, scoring 13 goals and 53 assists in 138 games. Callahan, a Franklin, Massachusetts native, was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft and was traded to Boston for a seventh-round draft pick on February 22, 2022.
Alec Regula, 23, appeared in 55 games with the Providence Bruins in the 2023-24 season, recording four goals and 22 assists with a plus-36 rating. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound defenseman has 16 goals and 61 assists in 163 career AHL games with Providence and the Rockford IceHogs, along with a plus-42 rating. Regula has also played in 22 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, scoring one goal. The West Bloomfield, Michigan native was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft and was acquired by Boston, along with defenseman Ian Mitchell, in a trade for forwards Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno on June 26, 2023.
