Russell Westbrook, once a dynamic superstar in his prime, is a former MVP and holds the record for the most triple-doubles. Westbrook joined the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2022-23 season following a contentious departure from the Los Angeles Lakers. He was subsequently traded to the Utah Jazz, who then waived him.

Recently, the Clippers traded Westbrook back to the Utah Jazz in a package deal for guard Kris Dunn. The Jazz are expected to waive Westbrook again, after which he is anticipated to join the Denver Nuggets. Upon leaving the Clippers, Westbrook penned an emotional farewell to the team and its fans, expressing his gratitude to owner Steve Ballmer and the entire organization.

Westbrook was a key contributor to the Clippers, even if he wasn’t the same player as during his Oklahoma City Thunder days. He averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists during his time with the Clippers. Fans also saw him adapt to a bench role following the James Harden trade.

At 35, Westbrook is no longer the explosive point guard of his younger days, but he can still be a valuable role player, contributing with his mid-range shooting and post-game skills.

Following his departure from the Clippers, Westbrook is expected to team up with current MVP Nikola Jokic on the Denver Nuggets. Westbrook could be a valuable addition, particularly as a sixth man.

With Jamal Murray as the starting point guard, Westbrook is likely to come off the bench for the Nuggets. He has shown a willingness to embrace a smaller role, as evidenced by his time with the Clippers. His veteran experience, highlighted by his accolades as a former MVP, 9-time All-Star, and 9-time All-NBA selection, will be invaluable to the Nuggets. Fans are hopeful that Westbrook can finally secure his first NBA title with the team.
