Welcome to Missouri Tigers On SI’s “Extra Point,” a video series featuring the site’s Missouri beat writers. Several times a week, the writers will offer analysis on topics concerning the Tigers or the broader college sports landscape.

In the video above, MissouriOnSI football reporter Joey Van Zummeren shares his thoughts on three key storylines to watch as Missouri begins fall practices for the 2024 season.

Following an 11-2 season capped by a Cotton Bowl victory in 2023, expectations for Missouri football are higher than ever, with realistic hopes of qualifying for College Football’s new 12-team playoffs.

At SEC Media Days last week, head coach Eli Drinkwitz emphasized the importance of managing these expectations. Each new season presents its own challenges, regardless of past successes.

The first steps for the 2024 team to match or exceed the 2023 team’s achievements will occur during fall camp. The Tigers will need to adapt to a new defensive system, coordinator, and transfers as they work to establish their team identity.
