The Boston Red Sox farm system is expected to experience some losses this week as the team looks to trade for an impact starting pitcher.

Red Sox No. 10 Prospect 'Could Be Part Of A Package' To Acquire Elite Starter

While the Red Sox are not planning to move their top two prospects, Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony, the No. 6 prospect Nick Yorke is reportedly available.

Another prospect likely to be included in a trade package is No. 10 ranked Richard Fitts. Fitts, a sixth-round pick by the New York Yankees in the 2021 MLB draft, was acquired by the Red Sox last year in the Alex Verdugo trade.

According to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey, Boston could use Fitts as a valuable trade asset.

“The farm system is short on pitching depth, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they opted to trade right-hander Fitts,” McCaffrey reported. “To get a young, controllable arm in the majors, a team often needs to trade pitching in return. While Fitts alone might not secure Garrett Crochet, he could be part of a package.”

Although keeping Fitts and developing him would be ideal, trading quality players is necessary to acquire them in return.

If the Red Sox can secure a postseason-ready starter this week without giving up Mayer or Anthony, they will have successfully navigated the trade deadline.
