The Toronto Blue Jays have traded outfielder Cam Eden to the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations, as announced by both teams on Friday.
Eden, 26, spent the entire season with the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. He made five MLB appearances late in 2023 but has mostly remained in the minor leagues throughout his career.

The Yankees plan to assign Eden, who was not on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster, to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Toronto originally selected Eden in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft after his time with the California Golden Bears. Eden was a standout in college, hitting .314 with an .825 OPS, and earned accolades like Freshman All-American and All-Pac-12 honorable mention, along with being an All-Star in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
However, his professional performance has been less impressive, with a career batting average of .236 and a .677 OPS over 420 minor league games, averaging 127 hits, 10 home runs, and 64 RBIs per 162 games.
Eden’s stats with Triple-A Buffalo declined from a .257 average and .687 OPS in 2023 to .198 and .620 in 2024. Despite this, he has shown promise in Spring Training with the Blue Jays, batting .304 with a .760 OPS in 23 Grapefruit League games.
Eden has also been a prolific base stealer in the minors, with 153 stolen bases, including 30 in 2021, 36 in 2022, 53 in 2023, and 26 so far in 2024.
While the Yankees may not rely on Eden’s hitting immediately, if he joins the active 26-man roster later in the season, he will likely be used primarily as a pinch-runner. In his brief MLB stint with the Blue Jays in 2023, Eden did not attempt a stolen base, going 1-for-6 with a run and two strikeouts.
