Michigan football tight end Colston Loveland has earned a spot on yet another preseason watch list, this time for the John Mackey Award. This prestigious award is given annually to the nation’s top tight end.

Named in honor of legendary tight end John Mackey, the award has recognized college football’s most outstanding tight end since 2000. Recipients of the John Mackey Award exemplify the on-field excellence, sportsmanship, academic achievements, and community involvement associated with Mackey, who played at Syracuse. A complete list of past winners is available below.

Last season, Loveland was Michigan’s second-leading receiver, recording 45 catches for 649 yards and four touchdowns. With Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson now in the NFL, Loveland is expected to become a key target for Michigan’s next starting quarterback.

Jake Butt remains the only Michigan player to have won the John Mackey Award, having claimed it in 2016 as an All-American.
