Matt Vierling will return to the Detroit Tigers lineup on Sunday afternoon as the Tigers (55-63) and Giants (61-58) conclude their series at 4:05 p.m. Eastern time at Oracle Park.

Vierling, who missed the last two games due to back soreness, will serve as the designated hitter on Sunday.

Catcher Jake Rogers, infielders Javier Baez and Andy Ibanez, and outfielder Ryan Vilade will be available off the bench.

On the mound, Tigers right-hander Keider Montero (2-5, 5.62 ERA) will take on Giants righty Hayden Birdsong (3-1, 4.73 ERA).

Birdsong, who turns 23 this month, will be making his eighth career start after debuting on June 26. Drafted in the sixth round out of Eastern Illinois in 2022, he quickly rose through the minor leagues with impressive performances.

In Montero’s last start on August 6, he struck out a career-high eight batters, leading the Tigers to a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. Montero allowed just four hits and one walk in six strong innings, with the only run coming from a solo homer by Luke Raley in the fifth.
