The NFL season is fast approaching, with kickoff less than a month away. As training camp unfolds for all 32 teams, the Baltimore Ravens are entering the 2024 season with high expectations. After a deep playoff run last year that ended in the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Ravens are poised to contend for the AFC title again, provided they stay healthy.
Preseason football is already underway, and the Ravens played their first game on Friday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Although a few players sustained injuries, the team avoided any major setbacks. However, during Sunday’s practice, safety Kyle Hamilton suffered an injury, causing some initial concern. Despite this, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh downplayed the severity of the injury.
“[It] looks stable,” Harbaugh said, as reported by ESPN. “Obviously, we’ll continue to do some tests tonight and tomorrow to make sure, but first indications are that he’s fine.”
On Monday, Harbaugh provided another update on Hamilton, reinforcing that the injury is not serious and that Hamilton should be able to ease back into practice soon.
“He’ll be kind of ramping back a little bit,” Harbaugh stated, according to the Ravens. “He’s good. It’s kind of a minor sprain. He got out there and moved around a little bit today. We’ll just kind of progress each day a little more, be out there going.”
This is encouraging news for the Ravens, as Hamilton has quickly become one of their key defenders despite only playing two seasons with the team. His health is crucial for the team’s success, and it appears he’s on track to return soon. Last season, Hamilton recorded 63 total tackles, one forced fumble, and four interceptions, marking a breakout year that he looks to build on in 2024.
In addition to Hamilton, there was another injury scare involving defensive back Nate Wiggins during Friday’s preseason game. Wiggins left the field with a team doctor after a tackle but, according to Harbaugh, it’s not a serious issue.
“Wiggins is not a serious injury,” Harbaugh said. “It’s the same one that I got last week on the water slide [fumble recovery drill].”
The Ravens managed to avoid serious injuries, which is crucial as they prepare for the regular season. With a talented roster, Baltimore’s ability to stay healthy through training camp will be key. The Ravens will kick off their regular season on Thursday Night Football against the Chiefs, setting the stage for an exciting start to the NFL season.
