Former Atlanta Falcons receiver Damiere Byrd has found a new home as his winding career path takes him to the Buffalo Bills. Byrd signed a one-year contract with the Bills on Monday, following a private workout with the team earlier in the day, according to ESPN.
The 31-year-old Byrd played a significant role for the Falcons in 2022, appearing in 14 games with four starts. He caught 13 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns on 23 targets. Byrd, who stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 175 pounds, is perhaps best known for his 75-yard touchdown catch against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7.
After the Falcons allowed Byrd to leave in free agency, he signed with the Carolina Panthers, an NFC South rival. However, after suffering an injury in training camp, Byrd was placed on injured reserve and eventually released in late August.
Once he recovered, Byrd rejoined the Falcons by signing a one-year deal with their practice squad on Oct. 19. He appeared in one game during his return but did not record any catches before being released on Nov. 22.
Byrd then signed with the Houston Texans in mid-January for the AFC playoffs but was not retained after the postseason. This spring, Byrd joined the Washington Commanders but was released on July 31.
The Miami Dolphins hosted Byrd for a free agency visit on Aug. 7 but chose to sign receiver Mike Harley instead. Ultimately, Byrd secured his chance in the AFC East with the Bills and is not scheduled to face the Falcons until at least 2025.
